Practical and performance exams

Practical and performance exams

Depending on the courses you study, you may dance, act, play an instrument, speak in another language or submit a major work as part of your HSC exams. Practical and performance exams take place in August or September.

See your personal exam timetable (from Term 2) in My Details for more information about your exam dates.

It is a good idea to photograph and video your work or performance as a back-up.

The following HSC courses require you to undertake a practical exam or submit works as part of your HSC exam:

  • Dance
  • Design and Technology
  • Drama
  • English Extension 2
  • Industrial Technology
  • Languages (except Classical languages and Background Speakers courses)
  • Music (all courses)
  • Society and Culture
  • Textiles and Design
  • Visual Arts

Practical exam certification

You and your school will need to certify to the Board the work in your practical or performance exam is all your own work (apart from any approved assistance).
